Beck cries if you DON'T let him ride the horse. Yup, that's my boy! I know this post really deserves a picture... but unfortunately I don't have one. While my niece was riding today, Beck cried and cried until we let him on Mr. Dee. Once in the saddle he beamed!
And yet the mere sight of the cat sends him into outerbody fits!

Have you explained to him that neither the cat or the dog are going to wind up on the dinner table?
Anara is doing about the same. Whenever she sees a dog, it throughs her into a fit, although this is begining to lessen a little.
LOL! But John, what about the horse?! Kazy, anyone?
That is so like Xander! He LOVES the horses (and donkeys) but it took him a longer while to get used to the cats and dogs. Now Jada (our dog) is his very bestest friend and he's been asking for a couple weeks if we'd get him his own dog! He's the same with the cats... once he got over the fear it's like they're pals for life!
Beck looks incredibly happy!! We are so glad you are home and done with the hard part. We were so sorry to hear about your rotten experience in Kazakhstan. It shocked us, they should be reported and I'm glad you were able to write the eval at the embassy.
Amazing about the dogs and cats and horses, it makes you laugh and cry. Enjoy these precious moments!

isabella (now 21 mos, home for 1 year) has a lingering worry when she sees a dog, it's obvious. My theory is that these children from Tokmok probably saw (or heard) stray hungry dogs grovelling for food around the orphanage garbage areas and no doubt heard (even saw) dogs fighting over scraps. That surely could cause the fear (hopefully temporary). We also notice a distinct lack of interest in most stuffed animals. Wonder if there is a connection.
