Gettin' Wet and Dirty

Another weekend, another horse show. But Mother Nature added an interesting twist this time; sidewards rain, flooding and tornado warnings. Oh My!
But she needs to throw us more than that (but, please don't) to stop Courtney and Storm. We spent most of the day camping out inside the trailer, only hopping out to enter the ring and then right back into the cozy, dry shelter of the Storm-mobile.

Staying warm and dry in the trailer.

More and more rain. Taking cover and watching the weather radar.

In the end, Mother Nature won out as we huddled inside the trailer, peeking out only to discover everyone else had left. Heh. Shouldn't we win by default?

Luckily, the majority of the show was completed, only the games were left - which is, of course, Courtney's favorite. But Courtney and Storm did great in the the classes that were held; 3 firsts, 1 second and 1 third; being awarded Grand Champion for the day in her division.

I thought I'd share a little story about the name of our farm. While I was pregnant, Joe and I couldn't agree on a name for the baby. At wit's end, we asked Jethro Tull's front man Ian Anderson for his suggestion (doesn't everyone?); he suggested Fiona (and Seamus, if it was a boy).
Unfortunately, as pretty as the name Fiona is, all I could think of was:

Yeah, Yoda in drag... no thanks.

So although we totally dissed Ian's suggestion for our baby's name, we did name our farm after one of his songs.

A beautiful song.

...but a really dirty song. NTTAWWT.

So far, only one person has ever made that connection... and they blushed. A LOT.

Ok, I listened to the song (felt like I was at a Renaissance Fair, NTTAWWT), but still didn't get why it was dirty. So I googled the lyrics, and I still don't get it.

Is Velvet Green slang for the carpet that may or may not match the drapes?

Oh Bev, Blogger really did a number on you, didn't it.
I love Tull, you think you're humming along to sweet folky music, when really it's a well-written tune about a dirty old man seducing a young girl into the woods for hand jobs and rough sex... then lies to her about loving her and sends her on her merry way, a little worse for the wear.

I'm a Country and Talk Radio fan, so I don't know what NTTAWWT means. Care to enlighten me, please?

I'd love to, Coffey - Not That There's Anything Wrong With That.

Wow. I did not get that at all!

*scratching head*

Better re-read those lyrics.

HA! I got something that Bev didn't!!! *dancing merrily around the living room*
And it does sound all Renaissancy, doesn't it?

and yeah, Shrek has kind of ruined Fiona, which I always liked as a girl's name.

DUH!!!Slappint forehead. Thank you. Gotta go...have a headache now.

Bev - "I'm tight against the seam.
And I'm growing up to meet you down on velvet green"
It's subtle. Understandably misunderstood.

MtnMama - Bev's a sharp one for sure, probably the sharpest I have the pleasure of knowing... and usually has her perv-o-meter always operational. But we'll give her a pass since she was traumatized and senselessly picked on for hours today by that mean ol' Blogger.

Coffey - I strive for folks to come here for enlightenment...and leave with a headache.
My work here is done.

I've always liked this song. I don't usually listen to lyrics(*), but I did always catch, "With your legs in the air."

Do you and Joe really know Ian Anderson, or were you just speaking metaphorically? Is that why you were so interested in his shirt at the Hard Rock?

(*)Lyle Lovett has a really pretty song called LA County. I never realized it was about a guy tracking down his ex and shooting her and her fiance on the altar, until someone pointed it out to me.

Lyle also has a song, "One-Eyed Fiona"(**) that I couldn't find on youtube.

(**)Lyle's former wife, Julia Roberts' middle name is Fiona.

Shrek definitely ruined the name Fiona. It's too bad, 'cause I really like the name.

I'm sorry your horse show was so rainy and miserable. It looks like you guys really cleaned up though. Kudos to you for sticking it out like troopers!!

I grew up listening to Jethro Tull..never really grasped the meaning of lyrics. Hmmm Very eye opening post Mala.

I've always liked that song but have never paid attention to the lyrics--nor have I ever seen it. I don't care if it's dirty, I still like it.

Now I want to go to your farm, put on a puffy shirt and the hat the drummer's wearing, and drink mead. May I please?

Champion -- NICE WORK! Those champion ribbons were my favorite possessions as a kid. PS Thanks for making the trip across the pond to save me. So kind of you ( :

That video was like I was magically transformed to a renaissance festival...flutes and those leather boot things, dirty old men..bald men with long hair around the sides. I must have a turkey leg on a stick. That is what he means my "legs up in the air" right?
