As we galloped, splashing a long the water's edge, I felt the negativity that I had been carrying melt away. Dee's ears were perked as he leaped and galloped through the waves, undoubtedly enjoying himself as much as I was. The rhythmic pounding of his hooves on the sand filled my head as I closed my eyes, let go of the reins and held my arms out, feeling the wind surround me and wondered if there would ever be such a perfect moment ever again.
As the tide started to come in, we untacked and brought the horses back down to the beach to roll in the warm, soft sand. As if he were entertaining the gathered crowd, Dee rolled, got up, laid back down and rolled again. The more people laughed, the more he'd do it.
I brought him back down to the water where he pawed and snorted at the waves. Sadly, in New England, by the time the ocean water warms up to a bearable temperature, summer is over. On this day the air temperature and water temperature were about the same, making it actually delightful to go for a swim, although Dee and I were the only beach-goers to actually swim.
I hadn't actually planned on getting totally wet but the water felt great and there is nothing like swimming with your horse out in the ocean's waves, especially BIG waves.
But once we got over our heads I realized my riding boots, filled with a few gallons of water, were now acting like cement shoes and decided it was time to head back to shore, salvage some dry clothes and head home.
I couldn't imagine a more perfect day.

What?! The ocean warms up?? What is that? I've only been in the Pacific, and brrr is the way it is all the time. Sounds lovely, and if I could go with a horse, I truly would be in heaven.
Laughed at the water filled riding boots, though!
What excellent pictures, and what a wonderful sounding day! You realize how far I had to travel to get to the water? Count your blessings!
OH! And I totally think you should try going for a NaOcPiMo! You are rocking at this, minus the dead camera battery incident. Do it...
Mtnmama - I hear ya! But warm is a relative term. I don't swim in the ocean here during the summer because it gives your body an all-over brain freeze!
Welcome back 'Mama!
Saturday was definately one of those days that I counted my blessings!
And I secretly think I fell off the ol' NaSePiMo wagon because you left...
I'll leave NaOcPiMo to you girlfriend! C'mon, YOU can do it! *clapping wildly*
Oh, sure, blame me. I see how you are. And I just might give it a whirl. *rubs hands together*
The only thing missing from this post is Fabio.
Seriousishly.
And, of course, a buttery spread.
*ahem*
No, not that.
That sounds so wonderful! I'm glad you had such a great day and a wonderful time:)
stuart is cracking me up!
Beautiful pix and man and I'm envious! While I've ridden plenty of horses, I'm no horse person...but if I thought I could pack one up and ride it on the beach, I'd buy one...and raise it in my garage...and feed it Dog Chow...and let it graze in the park a block away.
What? that's not right?
should have been man AM I envious...
ahhhh, my typing skills.
Looks like a glorious day! Just think, while you were doing that I was cleaning the house in btwn trips to the potty. Jealous?
I'm glad you had your moment of Zen!
LMAO @ Stuart!!! "Buttery spread!"
Samsmama - I fall of wagons very easily....
Stuart - Fabio *shudder*.
If it makes you feel better, I did strip off the 40lbs of wet clothes and may or may not have given the old couple parked next to me in their RV quite a show.
OBMJ - Thank you. It's nice to have the soul refreshed.
Mary - Just put a leash on it... no one will notice.
Bev - No moment of Zen for you while sitting upon your porcelain throne? Shame.
The picutres are absolutely gorgeous. Oh how I love the ocean..it really does melt away the tension doesn't it?
Oh my gosh...even if you had a miserable day, it LOOKED like Heaven!! I love how Mr. Dee's ears perked! It was happiness for all! Great pictures! I'm going to miss NaSepPiMo!!!!
Have you been watching The Black Stallion again?
Former horse person here. I want this life for a day. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Did I mention perfect?
